Our House

No rehearsals now until Sunday 28th due to Reading Half Marathon & AGM

The rehearsal on the 28th will now be full cast all day, to make up for missing next weds. The pm rehearsal will take place in the Gym due to the SPACE show in the hall.

Remember, if you cannot make a rehearsal you need to tell MARY, and only Mary. If you tell anyone else, it will go down as an Unnotified absence.

AGM

The AGM is next wednesday, we would encourage all members and parents to come along. It is always an interesting evening, and you need your parents to vote on your behalf if you are under 18.

Birthday Party

Invites & Ballot forms were given out tonight. Ballot forms need to be returned by the 31st. If you were not there tonight these will be posted out to you in the next couple of days.

Hi Everyone

Here is a short update for you all

Our House

Firstly congratulations to everyone who auditioned on Sunday, I know that the production team were very impressed with all of the hard work and preparation that had taken place beforehand. The only downside to all of your hard work is that it made the panels decision that much more difficult!

As i’m sure you are all aware by now, there are never enough principal parts for the number of people who did well at the auditions, and although we know a lot of you will be disappointed, we hope you are still excited at he thought of being involved in what is sure to be a great production. The great thing about "Our House" is that there are lots of smaller parts to go around!

I will be arranging some feedback sessions, however this won’t be until after I get back from my holiday in about 10 days time, so please bear with us.

I would like to remind everyone who auditioned / attended the workshops that you all have a place in the show, and our first full cast rehearsal (and final dance audition – see below) takes place tomorrow from 7.30.

Audition Forms

There are about 6 of you who were at either the workshop on Wednesday or Friday who I do not have audition forms for!

Therefore before 8pm this evening can you please confirm either:

a) you won’t be auditioning for the show

b) you want to be considered, but just haven’t filled the form in (even if you are not there on Sunday)

Auditions

We are aiming to finish the auditions tomorrow between 2.30pm & 3.00pm, therefore we would appreciate if your parents were around to collect you at this time, but that they won’t mind hanging around if we overrun slightly.

On Saturday night, my mum, dad and I went to see your production of Fame. We’ve lost count of the number of Starmaker productions we’ve seen over the years, as we’ve been coming as and when we can since my brother, Rich, was there.. and he’s bloomin ancient now!
 
We always know our evening will be fun. We meet up with the Palins, our good family friends, for a cheeky glass of wine and catch up before the performance and then take our seats in the perfectly sized theatre to see what the youth of today has to offer and who our next stars of stage and screen will be! I’m always keen to find out from Michelle beforehand who she reckons are the ones to watch, and this was no exception. “They’re all good,” came the reply. ‘Michelle – loyal as ever’, were my thoughts.. and she read my face as she continued with, “No… really.. they’re brilliant Becky. There honestly isn’t a weak one in the cast – you’re gonna love it!”
 
Well, I don’t know why I’m so horrible, but when someone says that sort of thing to me, it just makes me want to find ‘the weak one’ even more! So.. I took my seat and waited. The show started and I remember feeling weirdly emotional straight away. (Now, it could have been the wine, but I’d honestly only had a glass and I reckon it takes… ooh, at least two(!!!) to get me squiffy normally!!) The young guy who opened the show was, to me, Ben Smith Number 2… and I’m a huge Ben Smith fan, so this was a great start! Well.. the show went from strength to strength. The voices were great. The dancing was great. The acting was great. The music was great. The choreography was great. In fact.. yeh, it was all grrrrrr-eat! (Raaagh!)
 
By the end of the show I was crying. (Damn that second glass in the interval!) The kids on that stage will never realise how good they were that night. When you are so busy remembering your own lines and moves and performing the show to an audience it is impossible to imagine what they are really seeing and whether it is coming over to them in the way you’ve been hoping for and working towards during the weeks of rehearsals. It did.
 
Well done to everyone involved. Like I said.. I’ve seen many productions.. but I’ve never felt the need and want to write an e mail to say how I felt about it. This time I did.

Well, what a show it was too. I think the word of the evening was PHENOMENAL! We all agreed it was the best Starmaker production we had ever seen. Please congratulate EVERYONE on their amazing performances. ALL the cast produced such polished, mature and believable characterisations, way beyond that expected from a ‘youth’ company. The standard of singing, dancing, acting and all round sensitivity to both their own, and their fellow performers parts, was, in many ways better than we have seen in some West End productions.

I find it hard to single out individual people [especially when there were so many], who gave OUTSTANDING performances, but can I just say that the humour portrayed by some characters, had tears of laughter rolling down our cheeks…..all I can say is ‘KEEP IT UP’!!!!

Just sitting there watching such a great evenings entertainment makes you realise how talented and wonderful our young people are….they are the ‘STARS OF TOMORROW’, who we have the privilege of seeing today…. how lucky we are.

I of course realise this standard of production does not happen without the backing of a very dedicated team of ‘experts’ in the background. Thank you to all of them too for all the long hours of hard work in producing, directing, staging, choreographing, lighting, building of sets, costuming etc. etc.[even understudying at the last minute!!!! Great performance Dave!] But most of all, giving our young people your time, expertise, love and guidance, which enables them to have the confidence to go up on stage and bring so much joy and pleasure to so many people…..THANK YOU  ALL.

I, have never felt so compelled to spontaiously rise to my feet at the end of a performance [be it 5mins. before the 'real' end!!! and with tears of emotion ruining the make-up,] as I felt after Saturdays show and would like to applaud you all on a FANTASTIC SHOW……WELL DONE.

Ben Ashton who directed the show said ” I am so proud of everyone’s achievements, all the cast & crew have been fantastic.  The whole point is to see everyone on stage enjoying themselves!  It looks amazing, the costumes, lighting and not to forget the incredible live band.  So go and book your seat and light up the sky like a flame!!”
